Planning rune progression

A route from fixed-value stat nodes to conditional skill changes without flattening different rune systems together.

By RO Codex Team Updated
Name the rune system first

Skill Runes, Attribute Runes, Arcane Runes, and Aesir Monument nodes use different progression rules. Keep their levels, grades, random ranges, activation requirements, and costs in separate ledgers before combining their final active effects.

Resolve skill changes precisely

A rune can add a modifier, change a listed value, replace a skill, or affect only a named skill family. For replacements, compare changed values as before → after and omit unchanged fields. Never count the original and replacement behavior at the same time.

  • Confirm class and skill restrictions.
  • Check grade, level, node prerequisites, and activation state.
  • Distinguish fixed values from rolled ranges.
  • Include material cost for the exact target level.
Prioritize reachable breakpoints

Choose the smallest investment that activates a meaningful mechanic or completes a useful node path. Marginal stat gains can wait if another branch unlocks a new multiplier, target scope, or rotation improvement.

Worked checkpoint
If the next node gives +1% Physical ATK but a nearby skill node changes the main skill’s hit count, test the hit-count breakpoint first. Include all prerequisite nodes and materials in its real cost.
Combine after activation checks

Once each system’s active effects are confirmed, compare them with equipment and buffs while keeping every target qualifier and condition attached. Do not assume every unlocked node is active in every loadout.
