Cards and Adventure Handbook bonuses

How to avoid counting a card effect and its Handbook reward as though both came from equipping one card.

By RO Codex Team Updated
Identify where the bonus comes from

A card can contribute an equipped effect, a deposit reward, an unlock reward, or more than one of these. The equipped effect requires the correct slot and the card to be in active gear. Handbook rewards are account progression and must be unlocked or deposited through the game’s collection system.

Keep permanent and loadout effects separate

When testing gear, first include only the card equipped in the current loadout. Then add account-wide Handbook progress that the character has actually earned. This prevents a common double count where the card description and its deposit bonus are both treated as immediate slot effects.

  • Check valid slot or equipment target.
  • Read the exact buff scope and condition.
  • Confirm whether the reward is unlock, deposit, or equipped.
  • Use the linked monster source to plan acquisition.
Match the card to the target

Race, size, element, class, and status modifiers apply only to matching encounters. Compare cards on the same monster profile. A strong boss card can be poor for routine farming, while an elemental card can dominate a narrow dungeon.

Worked checkpoint
For a card with an equipped Demi-Human bonus and a separate deposit Physical ATK bonus, the first belongs to the active equipment set and matching target; the second belongs to permanent account progression after deposit.
Plan collection value over time

A low-cost card with a useful deposit reward can be a better account upgrade than a rare card that only improves one loadout. Evaluate the immediate build gain and the permanent collection gain as separate decisions.
