A village girl named Karen was adopted by a wealthy senor Woman after her mother's death. Before, Karen had only worn wooden shoes. Now, her foster mother gifted her a pair of red dancing shoes specially made to her feet. Karen often wore her red dancing shoes to solemn church services despite the etiquette she had been taught. When her foster mother fell ill, she attended parties in her favorite red dancing shoes. One day, an elderly lady outside a church said some strange things to her. Karen couldn't take off the dancing shoes ever since. The shoes began dancing on their own wildly, day and night, rain or shine, without stopping. Karen danced to a hangman and begged to have his feet chopped off. The hangman cut off Karen's feet but the dancing shoes danced on, taking Karen's feet away into the dark night.
