Among the group of young and able miners, there was one small figure pushing a cart that was only one head shorter than himself to transport ores outside. The boy called Lanier was from a village nearby. His mother was ill most of the time and his father alone supported the entire family. An accident happened to his father in the mine. At a very young age, he came to his father's mine for a job to support the family. Everybody knew about Lanier's situation. He wasn't tall or strong enough to mine ores. The chief gave him a cart. The boy's small face was tight, his teeth clenched and sweat coming down his forehead. He pushed the cart step by step. When he finally reached the cave entrance, the bright light forced him to narrow his eyes. He took a deep breath and the air tasted metal. The chief waved at him so he stopped the cart aside and wiped his hands on his clothes. He walked back and received a bag of coins. Big pieces of rocks began to fall from the ceiling and Lanier was knocked out. His hands grabbed tight on the bag of coins.
