Donner's mother was a poor weaver. As Christmas was coming, Donner asked his mother for a rabbit doll. The rabbit doll on sale was too expensive for his mother to buy, so she told Donner that she would make a doll as cute as the rabbit by herself. But Donner only liked the one on sale. He began to cry and scream. His mother felt so helpless that she had to steal the rabbit doll, but was discovered by the retailer. The retailer did not ask her for money, but hacked one of her arms. On Christmas Eve, Donner got the rabbit doll he wanted, but did not know that his mother could never weave again.
